Simple Actions You Can Take

These simple ideas can make a BIG difference. Take just 60 seconds to check, and submit the simple things you can do and we'll report back on the combined difference everyone is making.

Hangout with your grandparents
Its easy to get busy and not spend time with family. Chances are nobody knows that better than your grandparents and that they might often feel left behind. Spend some time with them to help them feel valued... not to mention, they can tell you good stories about your parents when they were young.
Help seniors with their chores
Advancing in age often means new physical limitations. Offer to help seniors where you live with their chores. Simple things to you like bringing in the groceries, mowing the lawn, or watering flowers can seem insurmountable to them.
Show appreciation for older people
Every now and then, pick some flowers or get a small gift from the store and give it to a senior citizen you know just to let them know you were thinking about them. They'll feel valued and remembered.
Learn something from an elderly individual
Take the time to learn something from a senior citizen like cooking, sewing, woodworking, mechanic work, gardening, etc. This keeps them active, social and feeling valued.
Entertain senior citizens
Get together with some friends and think about how you can entertain some seniors. Ideas might include:
  • Burning CDs of their favorite music for them.
  • Picking up books and/or books on tape for them from the library.
  • Working with friends to organize a play or performance for your local convalescent home.
Offer to scan a senior's photos into the computer
Create a slideshow with music and download it onto a DVD. The video slide show is likely to become a favorite memento right away.
